paradoxical details

Last August I went to visit my debate coach, Amy Walker. I don't remember most of our two hour talk, but I vividly remember that when I got up to leave she said, "Be safe. Fall in love."

We hugged, I promised her I would (I didn't), and left thinking to myself, "There is nothing safe about falling in love..." I think danger is an inherent part of loving someone and letting them love you back. This morning when I was "cordially invited to be courageous and vulnerable" a lot of things came to mind, but one of them was that conversation with Mrs. Walker.

Hey everyone. Be safe. Fall in love.

  1. that is fantastic. i love it. and you.

  2. love that.

trust me when I say falling in love and being loved back is the most incredible thing in the entire world. trust me. i know things :)

didn't get my fill of you at Christmas. I hope you visit again soon.

  3. My mother-in-law and I were talking about being married one day, and she said the most incredible thing that I really loved. I don't remember the exact words, but she just mentioned how having a good marriage makes you feel safe. And it's true. There's no safer place in the world than being held by someone who you love and who loves you back.

  4. I love that saying. It really is thought provoking. Thanks for sharing!

  5. very sagely advice.

    you're hip.
